DFS Namespaces

DFS Namespace gives you the possibility to unify all your network shares into one, so your users will only have one mapped drive.

Select to create a new namespace and specify the server that will host the namespace:

Next you have to enter the name of the namespace:

Make sure you select “Domain-based namespace” and “Enable Windows Server 2008 mode” so you can use ABE(access based enumeration):

Next click “Create” to finish the process.

The following step is to add all the network shares to the namespace. You can change the display name of the folders in the namespace.

Enabling access-based enumeration on a namespace

Access-based enumeration hides files and folders that users do not have permission to access.

  1. In the console tree, under the Namespaces node, right-click the appropriate namespace and then click Properties .
  2. Click the Advanced tab and then select the Enable access-based enumeration for this namespace check box.
